To ensure cultural competencies across the various cultures and subcultures that comprise Wayne County, in addition to ensuring geographical access over Wayne County's 670+ square miles, Hegira Programs' mobile crisis service model was built  around the engagement of additional strategically situated service agencies.

The core community-based service providers of COPE:

My name is Kristie Schmiege; I am the Director of Crisis Services for Hegira Health, Inc. (HHI).  In my role I am responsible for the leadership and oversight of HHI’s adult crisis services programs, Community Outreach for Psychiatric Emergencies and Screening Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment Services (SBIRT).

As a member of HHI’s executive leadership team, it is with great pleasure that I am able to serve an integral role in the oversight of Wayne County’s adult behavioral health crisis and medical setting screening services.

C.O.P.E. has changed the way crisis services are delivered in Wayne County.  These system improvements benefit a broad scope of stakeholders, including but not limited to, consumers, consumer families and other supports systems, hospital emergency departments, emergency responders and community clinics.  C.O.P.E. offers face-to-face, flexible, collaborative intervention that involves input from consumers and their support systems as well as the community professionals that have identified the crisis event.  This county-wide service has demonstrated that mobile crisis screening and stabilization improve optimally matching service recipients with the most appropriate, medically necessary, least restrictive level of care.

As the leader of SBIRT services, another service uniquely provided in Wayne County by Hegira Health, I am responsible for ensuring that persons across the county are not only comprehensively screened during medical visits for signs and symptoms of mental health and or substance use disorders but that these individuals are provided the support and linkage to access services meeting their individual needs.  SBIRT services are delivered in settings such as emergency rooms, Federally qualified Health Centers and other non-behavioral health oriented medical clinics.

I am committed to assuring that the services offered through C.O.P.E. and SBIRT meet the unique needs of each individual served and each organization with which we work.

Please do not hesitate to contact me.  I can be reached by phone at 1-844-296-COPE, X213, or by email at kschmiege@hegirahealth.org or stop in at C.O.P.E.’s Administrative Office and Stabilization Unit site:  33505 Schoolcraft Rd., Livonia, MI 48150 (Farmington Rd and I96).

I look forward to collaborative partnerships with each of you.
